5 Driving Habits That Impact Performance Of A Truck

Are you a truck driver? If so, you will be glad that you stumbled upon this article on 5 driving habits that impact the performance of a truck. Read on to know more.

Trucking is a blast since it involves journeys across beautiful terrain, however, there are times when you get frustrated, like when there is downtime due to a breakdown. It is at those times you would have wished to have taken care of your truck by conducting scheduled maintenance. Nonetheless, it’s not too late for you to consider certain tips to keep your truck healthy.

In this regard, we believe that it’s only right if we shared those tips to sustain the life of your workhorse, to ultimately gain better profitability at the end of the day. So, here are 5 driving habits that impact the overall performance of a truck and how to avoid them:

  1. Unnecessary Speeding:

Unnecessary speeding is a risk to both the occupants in the truck as well as the pedestrians and other vehicles around you. However, speeding can also cause the engine to face unusual wearing which could result in a breakdown. To be precise, if you drive your vehicle at a higher rpm with load, the vehicle is more prone to wear. Also, it burns up the fuel quicker than in normal driving conditions. So, avoid speeding to save fuel which will indeed save your money.

  1. Heavy braking:

While driving, few drivers tend to brake heavily which will cause the wearing of brake pads and brake liner. Also, heavy braking is the cause for brake failures apart from the obvious, which is lack of maintenance. Heating up of brakes while carrying a heavy load is something you need to avoid as it is risky. So, coasting a bit to slow down before hitting the brakes will save you and your money spent on service.

  1. Downhill braking:

Next, it’s quite obvious that you need to brake when going downhill, however, excessive braking is harmful and will present poor braking performance in the future. So, let the engine braking do the job for you instead of applying the brakes completely while going downhill.

  1. Warming Up Engine:

Up next is to make sure to leave the vehicle on for about three to five minutes, when you start the vehicle each day, before heading out to haul heavy cargo. By doing so, unnecessary stress and strain on your vehicle can be avoided significantly. So, it is advised to raise the engine temperate to the optimal level before freshly heady out each day to carry on with load and their transportation.

  1. Underinflated tyres:

Finally, make sure that your vehicle’s tyres are inflated to the right amount to avoid rolling resistance which will increase drag causing the vehicle to operate with a great amount of stress. So, make sure to fill up the tyres with the right amount of air pressure.

Thus, the above-mentioned are 5 driving habits that impact the overall performance of a truck and how to avoid them.
