Leading and renowned electric commercial vehicle manufacturer and service provider, Volta Trucks has announced that their first Volta Zero vehicle has been constructed completely at the company’s contract manufacturing facility in Steyr, Austria.
The vehicle constructed, which is of a series of second-generation ‘Production Verification’ prototypes will be part of a Pilot Fleet of trucks according to the brand. Further, they will be loaned to their customers for extended periods in late 2022 and early 2023. The purpose of loaning the trucks is to help fleet operators understand how to integrate this medium-duty commercial truck into their fleet used for numerous operations.
It has been also stated that the series production of customer specification vehicles is set to begin probably by early 2023.
Volta Trucks’ contract manufacturing facility is run by Steyr Automotive, formerly MAN Truck and Bus Austria. Steyr Automotive was appointed in August 2021 following an extensive tender and also due to their vast experience in commercial vehicle manufacturing, and existing infrastructure used for the production of vehicles. This company offers Volta Trucks more than 100 years of manufacturing experience building large commercial vehicles.

Furthermore, it has been announced that the facility will have the capacity to manufacture 14,000 vehicles per year for Volta Trucks and is said to create 510 jobs, plus 180 jobs in the building of the cargo boxes, in addition to an estimated 2,000 positions within the supply chain.
Watching the first full-electric Volta Zero drive off the production line in Steyr, co-Founder and Chief Manufacturing and Logistics Officer of Volta Trucks, Kjell Waloen, said, “This first vehicle rolling off the line at our manufacturing plant in Steyr is the latest significant milestone on the Volta Trucks journey towards the start of production of customers’ vehicles.

As for the vehicle, it is a 16-tonne truck which rolls with a pure-electric range of 150- 200 kms. With the help of this truck from Volta, the brand claims that it can eliminate an estimated 1.2M tonnes of CO2 by 2025.
