In this regard, we present to you tips for driving a truck in heavy rain that can help you reach the destination as well as deliver goods safely.

So, here are 5 tips for driving a truck in heavy rain, read on:

  1. Avoid Distractions:

First and foremost, do not get distracted by your phone. Although, it’s quite obvious, sometimes drivers end up looking at their phones to reset the navigation system and directions or view text messages from dear ones. In case you need to set your navigation system, it’s best to do it before starting your journey that way you do not need to set it while driving. Also, make sure to keep your phone silent so that you do not get tempted to check it.

  1. Slow down:

Next, you need to slow down if the weather condition is getting worse. Also, if you are driving on a route that you have never taken before, it’s best to slow down and look at the signboard for avoiding accidents. It is always good to slow down and keep your distance from the vehicle in front so that you get time to react quickly in case the driver in front decides to brake suddenly.

  1. Do not use cruise control:

Using cruise control is not advised especially if it’s raining heavily because you are prone to not become aware of the truck entering hydroplaning. This is one of the reasons why accidents occur on the highway. It’s best that you take control of the truck and avoid using the engine brake since it could cause a loss of traction.

  1. Keep distance:

As mentioned before, it’s best to keep your distance from the vehicle in front of you to avoid a collision. Trucks need a longer time to accelerate and decelerate so it’s best if you keep your distance.

  1. Get off the road:

Finally, there are times when it’s best that you stop driving your truck like when there is heavy rain and visibility is less than 100metres. If you are feeling unsafe driving in such conditions, it’s best to wait for it to stop raining.
