Scania, a renowned name in the world of transport and sustainability, is making waves with its latest innovation – the Scania battery-electric bus platform. This platform, a vital component of Scania’s comprehensive e-mobility solutions, is making its debut at Busworld Europe. But what’s so special about it?
Power-Packed Sustainable Batteries
These buses come equipped with sustainably sourced and constructed batteries with an astounding energy storage capacity of up to 520 kWh. These powerhouses have been meticulously designed for heavy commercial vehicles, promising an impressive range of over 500 km under optimal conditions.
A Journey Toward Electrification
Scania’s journey toward electrification began with field tests of hybrid electric buses back in 2007. Fast forward to today, and the introduction of the Scania battery-electric bus platform marks another milestone in Scania’s electrification roadmap. It aligns with the Science-Based Targets for CO2 reduction and aims to provide quiet, zero-emission transportation options for communities across the globe.
A Comprehensive E-Mobility Offering
Scania’s e-mobility offering is a comprehensive package that covers everything from on-site energy and operational analyses to charging units, financing, installation, and a range of other services. It guides you through the implementation process and ensures reliable and efficient operations.

Low-Entry 4×2 Buses
The initial introduction of this innovative platform includes low-entry 4×2 buses, developed in close collaboration with bodybuilder partners. These buses are available in two performance variants. One has four batteries with an installed capacity of 416 kWh, offering a range of over 400 km in optimal conditions. The other boasts five batteries with an installed capacity of 520 kWh, ensuring a range of more than 500 km.
Setting New Standards
Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management, People Transport Solutions at Scania, emphasized that the new battery electric bus platform focuses on range, performance, and battery responsibility. These are critical elements in creating sustainable and viable transportation systems. Combined with Scania’s e-mobility services and solutions, it promises complete and highly competitive solutions for urban applications.
Sustainability in Action
One remarkable aspect of this innovation is that the batteries are not just designed but also produced sustainably through a partnership between Northvolt and Scania. This collaboration ensures top-notch quality and all-around environmental responsibility.
In an era when sustainable and eco-friendly transportation is the need of the hour, Scania’s new battery-electric bus platform offers a promising solution to cleaner and greener mobility. As this technology continues to evolve, it’s clear that Scania is driving the way toward a more sustainable transport future.
