Globally acclaimed electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, Volta Trucks and DB Schenker, one of the world’s leading logistics service providers have together successfully completed the first test phase of the electric Volta Zero Truck. For the first time in its history, a Design Verification prototype Volta Zero truck has been operated on roads and under different conditions.
In 2021, the two companies entered into an intense partnership and confirmed pre-orders of nearly 1,500 full-electric Volta Zero vehicles, the largest order for medium-duty electrified trucks in Europe to date.
As for the vehicle, the Volta Zero, a fully electric 16-tonne truck is set to be used in DB Schenker’s European terminals to transport goods from distribution hubs to the city centres and urban areas. The vehicle is believed to showcase the best performance and safety in different conditions.
Further, the brand mentioned that the truck which is designed from the ground up with an operating pure-electric range of 150 – 200 kms (95 – 125 miles) will eliminate an estimated 1.2M tonnes of CO2 by 2025. Together, Volta Trucks and DB Schenker will explore the potential uses of the technology to expand the offering. The rollout will begin at 10 locations in five countries.

The first use of a full-electric Volta Zero in a real-world testing environment is a significant proof point of the depth of the collaboration. To see Volta Zero vehicles operating on the streets in Paris is extremely exciting and is a great forerunner to us delivering significant volumes of customer trucks at scale in the near future.”
As for the vehicle’s launch in India, Dr. Seshu Bhagavathula, ex-director of Volta Trucks had spoken at the Safer Mobility Conclave, hosted by Autocar Professional held in the past: “India which is among the countries moving towards mass-scale electric mobility is set to be among them, though not immediately.
