The commercial vehicle industry is on the cusp of a revolution, driven by the integration of advanced software solutions. ZF, a leading global technology company, is at the forefront of this transformation, harnessing the power of software to develop smarter, more connected, and highly efficient commercial vehicle technologies.
At the heart of ZF’s approach is the integration of intelligent software solutions with its commercial vehicle products. This fusion of hardware and software expertise enables ZF to develop innovative technologies that address the complex challenges faced by the commercial vehicle industry. From improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions to enhancing safety and driver experience, ZF’s software-driven solutions are poised to transform the industry.
Braking and e-Drive Synergy Program
ZF has introduced the Braking and e-Drive Synergy Program which combines the electric driveline and braking functions. This new program utilizes the deceleration energy to increase the range of electric vehicles. This new technology works with the use of ZF e-drives, the AxTrax 2 dual and CeTrax 2 dual along with mBSP XBS advanced braking system. The e-drive acts as an actuator for the braking system to control acceleration and braking. This allows the system to recharge the batteries while driving and extend the vehicle range. There is also a special feature of ‘one-pedal-drive’ function that enhances drive comfort at low speeds as in yard vehicle applications or urban driving.
Software Brake Resistor
ZF has developed new software that replaces hardware in electric vehicles with brake resistors. This new software technology doesn’t allow the battery to overcharge. This allows the extra energy created to be stored in the vehicle’s batteries.
The vehicle location data is used to find out if it is being charged in an area of steep gradient. The system ensures the vehicle gets 100% charge when it reaches its descent. In all other areas, the system allows the battery to be fully charged when it is plugged in. The software makes the vehicle lighter by around 150kg of weight and also increases space in the chassis.
